Fast Phonics book differences:

Thin (cartoons):

The thin book is great for 3- and 4-year olds because the cartoons are full page size.  This book takes them through 2 letter words and one 2 letter word complete funny story –

THEN and ONLY then does the VERY YOUNG child transfer to the bigger Fast Phonics book to complete three letter words, four letter words using two vowels, blends, and diphthongs.

Thick (full book):

For a 5-year old and older children, all the mother must have is the thicker 180-page book.  I recommend ripping it up (or taking it to an office supplies store for their print service staff to slice off the glued binding) once you get it, so you only have to haul around a few pages of it at a time to teach the child on the couch.

We are finding that even 5+ ages love those huge cartoons of the letters contained in the thin book – so some people at conventions bought BOTH books.  Regardless, for an older child you only NEED the thicker book.

Either or both Fast Phonics books can be ordered from us at Homeschoolhowtos.com (or on Amazon, to save on shipping costs if you're outside the US).
