Each day is a specific, small picture of a far grander universal of what it is that we do over a lifetime with our offspring. Every bit of intentional parenting or grandparenting or tutoring is really a miniature project (story) of My Fair Lady, aimed at “How can I pass this street urchin off as a duchess??!!" Actually, God is doing it, through His holy sanctification project upon and inside each one of us, with the same challenge and genuine enjoyment to see it done well. He is taking us as we are and is turning us into veritable sons of God (Romans 8:23). Or, as Michelangelo said [paraphrasing here] after he had finished sculpting his statue of the shepherd David: “I only released what was already in there; I saw it all ahead of time.”
